Ancients II is a turn based RPG. It was published in 1994 by Epic MegaGames, Inc. I played this game for hours and hours long into the night. I’d frequently get lost in the tunnels under the town. They had multiple levels and all looked the same. I learn serious inventory management trying to find the surface again. As I found new rarer drops I had to make the hard decisions about what loot to drop. I hate dropping any loot. I’m a loot goblin and want to carry as much as possible back to the traders.
Like all RPGs you start off with a simple crew that grows in number soon after starting the game. You travel about levelling your members, kitting them out with better armour. Raising their XP towards special moves and casting abilities. It’s standard classic RPG action but it was one of my earliest and therefore most beloved RPGs.
If you want to try it for yourself it can still be found from a number of sources including here.
If you don’t mind the dated graphics and play style it’s well worth checking out as a classic example of how RPGs got started. There were of course earlier examples but this is a list of the ones I played.
Let me know
If you played Ancients II let me know in the comments below. I’d love to hear your stories of the fun times you had with this classic. If you haven’t played it yet why not try it and let me know what you thought. Keep in mind it’s a retro game. You won’t be getting all the bells and whistles of a modern game, just a slice of gaming history.
A lot of the games I played were RPGs. I love the genre. If you know of any I may not have tried, feel free to suggest them here too. I’m always up for trying new games, old and new.
